Albany County

On this 2nd day of February in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Eight personally appeared before the Justice Court of the City of Albany, the said being a Court of Record now sitting Adam Long, aged Seventy Five Years, a resident of the Town of New Scotland in said county, who being first duly sworn, according to law doth on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7. 1832.

That he entered the service of the United States, under the following named officers and served as herein after stated.

In the year 1778 I was a private in Teunis Slingerlandt’s Company of Militia, in Bethlehem.  In the month of September of the year, I was drafted with others from Capt. Slingerlandt’s company and from other Companies belonging to Col. Vandenberg’s Regiment to go to Saratoga.  We went on tour of duty to that place and served about three months and was dismissed at Schenectady and returned home – We next served under the Command of Capt. Slingerlandt, Lieut. Leonard, and Ensign Hildebrandt – I was very cold weather when we returned – In a few days after our return, I was ordered out again and went to Fort Hunter under the same officers – We served on that tour about a month.

In the year Schoharie Village was burnt, I was again ordered into the service, and went as a private in the Company of Capt. Slingerlandt’s to the Stone Church at Schoharie, where we were stationed with other Companies of drafted men – We went out about harvest time and remained in the service till late in the fall – I think I served in this tour, not less than three months – Capt. Slingerlandt returned home before I did, and I served the remainder of the tour under Capt. Joseph Salisbury, I think Col. Or Major Bernard had command of the Fort – I also served as a Waggoner in the Revolutionary War, before I went to Saratoga, in carrying timber from Bethlehem to Albany for the use of the Army – I was engaged in the service for about three months under the direction of Col. Nicholas Quackenbush.

I am not on the Pension roll of any agency of the United States, but claim a pension for my services above stated – I have never learned to writ and therefore make a mark or cross for my signature.
